“To Whom Much Is Given Much Is Required” Those Luke 12:42-48
Those who know more should do more!
12:48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
The idea of “to whom much is given, much will be required” is that we are held responsible for what we have. If we are blessed with talents, wealth, knowledge, time, and the like, it is expected that we use these well to glorify God and benefit others. Jesus has told us how to live until He comes: we must watch for Him, work diligently, and obey His commands. Such attitudes are especially necessary for leaders. The more resources, talents and understanding we have, the more we are responsible to use them effectively. God will not hold us responsible for gifts He has not giving us, but all of us have enough gifts and duties to keep us busy until Jesus return. Doing what God has given us to do and doing them well, will help us to stay in our lane.
The unfaithful servant mismanages the master’s resources to satiate his own greed, and Jesus warns that judgment is certain for that servant. The Lord then summarizes the point of the parable with these words: “Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more”.
